NORTHWEST PASSAGE

NORTHWEST PASSAGE

Sailing through the Northwest Passage on board the world's first hybrid electric expedition cruise ship, MS Roald Amundsen.

Pond Inlet

An inuit with former times cool and (often) necessary sunglasses made of leather and whale bone.

Gjøa Haven

Two degrees Celcius and a freezing wind from the north doesn't invite to a game of basketball.

Dundas Harbor

Polar bears can be spotted all over the landscape, even up high in the terrain.

Beechey Island

An armed polar bear guard moves into position during a landing in the wilderness.

Beaufort Sea

Photographing northern lights from a moving ship is a challenge. The sea must be dead calm, as it happened to be this night.

Pasley Bay

With its remarkable bow profile MS Roald Amundsen certainly stands out passing through the Northwest Passage.

Beechey Island

Over the years the Northwest Passage has claimed its share of deaths amongst entrepid explorers.

Beaufort Sea

The nightshift on the bridge is on the lookout for icebergs.
High above the ship mother nature shows off.

Peel Sound

For anyone trying to sail through yhe Northwest Passage, the real challenge has always been the ice. The future may look different.

Gjøa Haven

Life is rough in the remote settlements in northern Canada.

Smoking Hills

The underground has been burning for centuries in Smoking Hills.

Ulukhaktok

Center of town.

King Point

The remains of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen's hut at King Point where he spent the winter 1905-06.

Pasley Bay

Before the storm.

Smoking Hills

MS Roald Amundsen's experienced kayak instructor, Thomas Grant Olsen, in the Northwest Passage.

Northwest passage in black & white

Rough, barren and deserted - northern Canada is truly cool...

MS roald amundsen

MS Roald Amundsen is the world's first hybrid electric expedition cruise ship.
The ship is named after the famous Norwegian explorer who led the first expedition to successfully traverse Canada's Northwest Passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in 1903-06.
However, Amundsen is probably even more famous for beating Scott in the South Pole race in 1911.
