NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER

National Geographic Traveler magazine asked me to take the pictures for an article

in the autumn issue of German NGT.

The pictures were all shot in Antarctica during an expedition cruise and it was a real challenge;

I had seven days to get the job done, not weeks or months like this type of assignment would sometimes require.

However, I made it and NGT liked it. A full 10-page spread with the Antarctica pictures

was published in the autumn issue of German National Geographic Traveler.

Small boat cruising

A very popular way to experience icebergs and wildlife close up (and away from the expedition cruise ship), is to use small, motorized Zodiac-style boats with room for only a handful of passengers.

Antarctic wildlife

The wildlife is remarkably abundant in the coastal regions of Antarctica and since the days of hunting and wiping out everything alive are almost over, the animals are not as fearful as they used to be.

Explore Antarctica

Setting foot on continental Antarctica is magical and once ashore moving around will usually be easiest when using snow shoes.

Kayaking in Antarctica

The kayakers from an expedition cruise ship don't exactly blend in to the Antarctic landscape, but they do add colors to the blueish, monotonous tones.

Explore Antarctica

For most visitors there's only one way to Antarctica, and it's across the ocean on board a ship - no matter the continent you set out from.

SLIDESHOW

A selection of the Antarctica pictures I submitted to National Geographic Traveler.
All pictures was shot within the same week.
